Okay, we’re really leaving now…

Today’s the day. We’re finally shoving off and will be heading to Oswego, N.Y. I’ll fill you in later on why we’re running late – there may be a lot to be said for living your dream, but there’s also a lot to be done if there’s a boat involved.

So we’re crossing Lake Ontario today – or we’re going to try to cross Lake Ontario today. To save stepping our mast only to un-step it once we get to Oswego (the mast can’t be up to navigate the New York State canal system to the Hudson River), we’re carrying it on deck. This means we need pretty calm weather. We’ll anchor at Main Duck Island if the weather turns out to be not as forecast, or if we calculate that we’re not going to make it before late afternoon.

We’ll be better at keeping the blog updated, and will let you know how we’re doing in a day or two.

See the mast laid across the deck?
Starboard Side

(A little something that’s causing me some departure anxiety – the mast overhangs the bow and stern by 7 seven feet…that makes a total of 48 feet of stuff to look out for while we navigate out of the marina!)
