Ponce, Puerto Rico

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. It’s not a big deal here in the BVI…no green beer, no live music. No nothing, really. We came to shore hoping to find some Irish celebrating, but nothing was happening, so we used the WiFi to check some email and post this gallery of Ponce, PR.

We loved Puerto Rico, by the way, which is why we’re going to devote a big future post to our PR travels. In the meantime, we have a load of photos to show you, and we’ll stich ’em together later in the the The Big Puerto Rico Post.

Our first urban stop after clearning in in Mayagüez was Ponce (pronouned Ponce-eh). Captain Pito and Captain Jose each offered up their moorings for our visit to Ponce (we met them at the Marina Pescadaria Rally weekend), so we were able to moor in the protection of the inner harbour.

We noticed the giant fish – we were told they were tarpon – shortly after we tied up the dinghy.

We took a cab and dropped off the Dahon for some much-needed repairs, then asked the driver to drop us off in downtown Ponce. One of our first photos was of the Old Ponce Firehouse Museum…

We had no plan to tour the town, we just wandered and took a few pitcures..

The grocery store is just down the street from the Taino & the Tree, so after a bit of provisioning, we caught a cab back to the fishing association dock and went back to the boat.
