We Love Boat Visitors

We love having people come visit us on the boat. Wade & Kim brought us new guitar and banjo strings, sheet music and reading material, which makes our down time much more pleasant. They left for home February 24th, and we picked up Ela & Andrew on February 26th.

Ela & Andrew also came bearing gifts. Smoked meat, chocolates, cheese and enough nuts to last us the rest of the trip is only a partial listing!

Our luck with fishing is also much improved since they arrived. Up until recently, we’d caught only one fish this entire trip. We caught two in two days with Ela & Andrew on board.

We also enjoyed our first coconuts, thanks to them. Andrew knocked them from the trees with ones he found on the ground.

How did we survive without them? If they stick around, there’s a chance we could actually become self-sufficient.

I work with Ela back home, and she mentioned that there was a request to post some pictures – of us. Sima, these are for you.

These ones are from Jimmy’s place. He has covered his entire house (and car!) with sea shells. Our visit to his place is post-worthy on its own, so we’ll tell you all about Jimmy later.

And here are a few of me and Phill. I hate having my picture taken. Since I was little, I didn’t like being in photographs – I’d make faces and stick out my tongue. That sort of thing.

Today we’re in Vieques. We’re going to do some snorkeling on the nearby reef, then we’re going to sail over to Culebra this afternoon.

Maryl & Phill: Great seeing photos of you both. A friend from the sailing club asked what you looked like Maryl and I couldn’t find a photo of you on your adventures, only of Phill. I don’t like having my photo taken either, so I completely understand. I’m always try to take the photos and stay behind the camera/lens. Having said that . . . you are very photogenic Maryl and look awesome. We enjoy your blog and photos very much.

I usually protest when Phill tries to take a picture of me, so I think he’s given up, but Ela & Andrew managed to sneak a few photos ;). Hope all’s well in Ottawa!

Thanks Maryl!! I loved the pictures…

Hi Maryly, we arrive at our condo in Fajardo tomorrow along with a whole bunch of other boaters we have gathered along the way, so we plan on having a big party. Are you still in Culebra? this will be the last time that I will contact you as I have a feeling that we are not connecting. We really do not know you but thought that it was a good idea to follow your blog and Doug Patterson had spoken to Phil on a few occasions at NSC but we have not have not had any response from earlier messages I have sent. Being as you as are new Nepean Sailing Club members we thought it nice to keep in touch.. Anyway enjoy your trip south and maybe our paths will cross in the future.

      Hi Cherry & Doug,

So sorry about the much delayed response. We don’t always see the comments on the blog…I have to actually look under the “Comments” tab, and I often don’t think of it. I should have them forwarded to my email so that we actually read them when the come in…

We’ve been following yours & Doug’s travels as well…other than the engine troubles, it sounds like you had a nice crossing of the MOna Passage! It looks like we missed you by only about a week in Salinas…we left there on Feb 27th.

Thank you for the invitation to your place in Fajardo! We loved Puerto Rico – the people were so nice, and we found it to be one the least expensive places to cruise.

What day is your party? We’d love to see you, and some time on land would be a welcome break from the boat, that’s for sure. But we’re in St. John USVI now, and have boat guests until the 13th who we’re bringing to the BVI, so I doubt that we’ll be able to make it.

It’s getting close to the time we’re going to have to turn around and head back towards the Bahamas. We’re not sure if we’re going to stop in PR again on the way back, or if we’ll make a long run straight from the BVI. If we do stop in PR en route back home, we’ll let you know well in advance, and maybe we could stop in then. Where are you keeping your boat?

Hi Jeff – I meant to call and let you know what we were up to, but things got away on us getting the boat ready to leave last summer. Hope things are going well on your end (sorry to hear the weather’s still frosty).

It’s great to hear from you and we look forward to catching up when we return.
